Governor Katie Hobbs Wraps Up Third Day of Statewide Arizona Promise Tour in Northern Arizona
Phoenix, AZ - Today, Governor Katie Hobbs finished her three-day, statewide Arizona Promise tour with stops highlighting her accomplishments to expand healthcare for Tribal communities, bolster Arizona’s wildfire preparedness, grow the healthcare workforce, and make child care more affordable and accessible.
Governor Hobbs began her day hosting a roundtable with traditional healers and leaders at health facilities and clinics throughout Northern Arizona. Governor Hobbs’ Arizona Promise Budget included funding to allow traditional healing methods to be covered by AHCCCS, becoming one of four states to do so. The accomplishment will expand health care options for Tribal communities who have long been advocates of the program.

Highlighting the largest investment of general funds for childcare since the Great Recession, Governor Hobbs visited the Foresight Learning Center, where she spoke with parents and early education leaders about childcare in Northern Arizona. The Center received money from the new Bright Futures AZ Childhood Educator Scholarship to help retain critical positions on staff.

Next, Governor Hobbs visited Flagstaff Firestation 1, where she received a demonstration of tactical tools and training materials. With the increasing threat of wildfire, Governor Hobbs has made wildfire preparedness a top priority, and secured $4 million for the construction of a new Wildland Fire Training Facility in Flagstaff, as well as $30 million for wildfire prevention efforts.

At her alma mater NAU, Governor Hobbs visited the du Bois Center and spoke with university leaders about Arizona’s healthcare workforce and their role in the AZ Healthy Tomorrow initiative.. The Arizona Promise Budget included funds to expand SPEED bonding, which NAU is using to strengthen programs that help grow the healthcare workforce. Following the discussion, Governor Hobbs received a tour of NAU’s state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab, where students train with advanced mannequins to gain hands-on clinical experience.
